Investigation Update

October 22, 2009

UConn Police and the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad continue to work together as a task force to investigate the death of Jasper Howard that occurred on Sunday in the early morning hours. During this incident, an altercation occurred outside of the Student Union at approximately 12:30 AM after the building was evacuated due to a fire alarm during a sponsored University dance. The two stabbings occurred during this altercation. Several hundred people were in attendance at this dance and a number of people witnessed the stabbings. Significant progress has been made since the last update.

In response to our previous request, a number of people have contacted UConn Police already and forwarded images and other video taken on that night. It is known that other video and images exist that need to be reviewed. Anyone with images, photos, or video taken both inside and outside of the Student Union on the night of the stabbing incident should be submitted to investigators for review now. If you were there, and you recall now that you may have witnessed something that may have been related to the stabbings, investigators want to speak with you. The police investigation task force is requesting that all witnesses come forward to speak with task force investigators now. Thank you again for your assistance as we work together toward a conclusion to this investigation.

You may contact the task force by telephone at 860-486-4800 (UConn Police) or by using the telephone tip line at 860-486-4444. You may also email or text the task force at CrimeAlerts@uconn.edu.
